The Pines Respite Centre

Client:      Hertfordshire Council
Budget:    £50,000
Date:        April 2011
Adaptation of  an existing courtyard space into a play space for children with a wide range of physical and learning disabilities aged 6 - 18. The space had to cater for a wide range of needs, from very active children who love to climb to much more physically challenged young people. Through creative design this small space contained a bespoke tower with a U shaped scramble net for access by less able children, a wide slide, a basket swing and a sand pit. An existing pergola was adapted to accommodate a timber lounging deck surrounded by sensory planting. A sand pit with a bespoke ceramic water play sculpture is tucked into one corner. A sand play table is provided for wheel chair access.
