Green Dreams started life as a social enterprise 10 years ago as part of the renowned Bromley by Bow Centre in Tower Hamlets, committed to regenerating urban space in East London starting with the park on our door step. It is now independent from the centre, but still shares the same values. We work across London and the south east of England primarily with community groups to regenerate urban and green spaces. We are experienced in seeing schemes from early concepts to detailed design and tender stage, project managing the works to completion for budgets from £20,000 - £700,000. Lead by Julia Hilton who brings an imaginative and playful response both to consultation and design informed by her 20 years of experience in the public art field prior to her work at Green Dreams. In dense urban areas the intent has often been to bring an element of play for all ages into people’s surroundings using colour, pattern and playful solutions in creating new social spaces for housing estates, parks and schools. Our focus is on working closely with communities to help them develop and deliver their vision for their local green spaces. Recent projects have included a master plan for Gascoigne Estate in Shoreditch where we worked with Gascoigne Neighbourhood Association Ltd to develop a vision for a new pocket park. This has resulted in £362,000 of committed funding for the project from S106 money and an understanding from Tower Hamlets Council that amenity housing land needs to be included in any development of urban green spaces in such a densely populated area. At St Matthew’s estate we worked with the TRA to deliver a radical redesign of their external spaces that has resulted in a much more sociable estate. We have designed and built original and bespoke play spaces across London in parks, schools, housing estates and community centres as well as for special needs centres such as The Pines Respite Centre in Hertfordshire.
