Green Dreams was commissioned by Creative Partnerships to work with pupils in years 3 and 5 to develop ideas for a temporary sensory sculpture installation in the playground. Ways of expressing the sounds colours sensations and spaces of special places that the children had visited were used as a starting point. Using cardboard boxes, tissue paper and found objects, the children created environments that expressed their special places. The ideas developed this year will lead into a permanent modular framework sited in the playground that can be used as the basis for varied sensory explorations. Some shapes can be used for planting, exploring smell and taste, others could be a framework for musical instruments, colour explorations. Creating temporary installations such as these can be a valuable way of engaging children in consultation processes that result in richer outcomes than just a conversation saying ‘what do you want in your playground?’
